Most music teachers tackled a steep learning curve in 2020 when Covid required lessons to take place online. Interestingly, now, three years later, music teachers seem to be divided about the role of online lessons in their studios: some never want to go back to that format, and others are fully willing to embrace video conferencing as a way to grow their studio and reach more students.
Even for those who prefer in person teaching, having a video conferencing option seems to be a necessary evil. Most music teachers we talk to here at Duet feel the need to have a Zoom or FaceTime option available to their students, in case of illness, travel or bad weather. “I would never choose to teach online,” says piano teacher Sasha Gonzalez, “But I do need to have a way to do it just in case.”
At Duet, we’ve designed Online Studio to be that tool: at half the price of Zoom, it’s a great option to have in your toolkit. But the secret is that even though it’s half the price, it’s actually better than Zoom for music making! The biggest complaint about teaching music online through Zoom is that the quality of the sound is distorted. Even optimizing the various audio settings doesn’t always help. (In a recent online cello lesson, Zoom literally went silent when my daughter started playing – it didn’t pick up her cello sound at all!)
Online Studio addresses this problem with Music Mode, a special setting that gets rid of echo cancellation that is standard in Zoom, allowing all of the reverberations to come through.
Teachers also love the music-specific tools built into Online Studio. Guitar teacher Kai Luen says, “I love that I can pull up chord charts and a metronome directly in the system. It makes teaching online a much more streamlined process for me and my students.”
If you’re considering adding an online teaching platform to your music studio, Online Studio may be the perfect solution for you. Learn more at https://duetpartner.com/online-studio
